Creative talent from CSS Studios’ Todd-AO and Soundelux are among the nominees in the 82nd Academy Awards.

• Todd-AO’s Michael Minkler and Tony Lamberti have been nominated for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing for Inglourious Basterds. They share the nomination with Production Mixer, Mark Ulano. This is the eleventh nomination for Minkler, who has won the award three times (most recently in 2007 for Dreamgirls). This is Lamberti’s first nomination.

• Supervising Sound Editor Wylie Stateman of Soundelux is nominated for Best Achievement in Sound Editing, also for Inglourious Basterds. This is Stateman’s fifth Oscar nomination.

• Soundelux Supervising Sound Editors Mark Stoeckinger and Alan Rankin are also nominated for Best Achievement in Sound Editing for their work on Star Trek. This is Stoeckinger’s second Oscar nomination and Rankin’s first. Star Trek also received a nomination for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, with the nominees including Anna Behlmer, Andy Nelson and Peter J. Devlin.

“Michael, Tony, Wylie, Mark and Alan are exceptional artists and we take pride in celebrating their success,” said CSS Studios’ President, Robert C. Rosenthal. “These nominations provide the ultimate recognition for these very talented professionals and their teams for their hard work and dedication to the craft of sound.”

Additionally, Re-Recording Mixer Gary Summers of Todd-AO received two nominations for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing as part of the teams on Avatar and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

The 82nd Academy Awards will be held on March 7th in Los Angeles.

Talent from CSS Studios’ Todd-AO, Soundelux, Modern Music and Soundelux Design Music Group facilities have received a total of 15 nominations for 57th Golden Reel Awards from the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE).

Seven of the nominations come for feature film work, including two each for Inglourious Basterds and Star Trek. (Each was nominated for “Dialogue and ADR” and “Sound Effects and Foley.) Additionally, the three series in the popular CSI franchise picked up six nominations in two television categories. Other nominated projects include the films It’s Complicated, This Is It and GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the direct-to-video release Exit Speed, and the video game Resident Evil 5.

The 57th Golden Reel Awards will be held February 20, 2010 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Los Angeles.

Todd-AO Foley artist Gary Hecker is featured in David Farinella’s January 22, 2010 Technology article in Variety, discussing the artistic contributions of the Foley team and the role of new technology.

Co-Supervising Sound Editors Alan Rankin and Mark Stoeckinger of Soundelux

Supervising Sound Editor Mark Stoeckinger of CSS Studios’ Soundelux in Hollywood has been nominated for Best Achievement in Sound in the 2010 British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards. Stoeckinger received his nomination for his work on Star Trek. It is Stoeckinger’s first BAFTA nomination; he was nominated for an Oscar in 1998 for the film Face/Off.

Additionally, Re-Recording Mixer Gary Summers, of CSS Studios’ Todd-AO, is among those nominated for BAFTA’s Best Achievement in Sound for Avatar.

Winners of the 2010 BAFTA Awards will be announced February 21 at a ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London.

“This is a great honor for Mark, Gary and the creative team at Soundelux,” said CSS Studios President Robert C. Rosenthal. “It is a credit to their dedication and commitment to creative excellence in movie sound.”

Creative talent from CSS Studios’ Todd-AO and Sound One facilities were honored this morning as the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) announced their nominees for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for the 2009 Cinema Audio Society Awards.

  •  Todd-AO Re-Recording Mixers Ken Teaney, CAS and Todd Orr are nominated for Outstanding Mixing for a Television Series for the episode “Guy Walks into an Advertising Agency” of AMC’s Mad Men. They share the nomination with Production Sound Mixer Peter Bentley.

 

  • Sound One Re-Recording Mixer Dominick Tavella, CAS is nominated for Outstanding Mixing for Television—Nonfiction, Variety or Music—Series or Specials for “The Scripture of Nature,” an episode from the PBS mini-series The National Parks: America’s Best Idea. He shares the nomination with Sound Recordist Lou Verrico.

 

  • Todd-AO’s James Fitzpatrick, CAS is nominated for Outstanding Sound Mixing for DVD Original Programming for “Something, Something, Something Dark Side¸” a DVD release based on Fox’s Family Guy. He shares the nomination with Production Sound Mixer Patrick S. Clark.

 

  • Todd-AO Re-Recording Mixer Gary Summers is nominated for Outstanding Sound Mixing in a Motion Picture for Avatar. He shares the nomination with Production Sound Mixer Tony Johnson, CAS, and Re-Recording Mixers Chris Boyes and Andy Nelson.

 

Winners will be announced February 27.

Sound One recently provided sound editorial and mixing services for the new Columbia Pictures release, Did You Hear About the Morgans? Sound One’s Michael Barry and Robert Hein served  as Re-Recording Mixer and Supervising Sound Editor, respectively, on the comedy which stars Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker as wealthy New Yorkers who are resettled in Wyoming as part of a witness protection program. 

Barry has mixed such films as Mamma Mia!, Michael Clayton and Music and Lyrics.   Hein’s previous credits include Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Saphire, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and the upcoming Mikael Håfström film, Shanghai.

Sound One is the east coast’s premier audio post-production facility, home to five re-recording studios, two ADR studios, a Foley studio with a comprehensive prop collection, and nearly one hundred editing suites. Sound One is centrally located on Broadway in the historic Brill Building in midtown Manhattan.

Creative talent from CSS Studios’ Soundelux and Sound One facilities were honored this morning as The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) announced their nominees for “Critics’ Choice Awards” for “Best Sound” – one of seven new award categories added this year.

CSS Studios is grateful to the BFCA for recognizing the work of sound professionals and we are pleased to note nominations for NINE and STAR TREK as part of the inaugural list of nominees for “Best Sound.”
